Well a toxic relationship is never good for either party and adding kids in the mix makes the environment unhealthy for everybody.  One thing is for sure, something needs to change.  If you haven't tried couples counseling I would highly recommend that before making any drastic decisions.  If the relationship is volatile, however, and you or your children are at risk in any way, shape or form you should consider relocating to somewhere safe while you work out the details of your relationship.  Remember that a healthy family does not have always be a 'traditional' one.  Kids are often times better off being away from the toxicity and in a safe environment as opposed to growing up watching their parents live an unhealthy lifestyle.
