I have questions about symptom checker result.

My therapist says I have Asperger's Syndrome, and that the conversations we had about it counted as a diagnosis. My psychiatrist says it can't be diagnosed without clinical testing and that because I'm capable of holing a job it doesn't matter and isn't worth diagnosing. I feel that I meet all of the criteria, and have found communities for Asperger's helpful, but don't like not being able to definitively say "this is what I am" and therefore still being expected to have the ability to change and control my symptoms, and I think I pretend that I'm less affected than I am. How would I go about getting a definitive diagnosis and who would I go to?

Hi Liz,

Thank you for reaching out. It sounds like your new diagnosis has left you with many questions as to what it means to have Aspergers and how it affects daily life. We would be unable to DX as well, but we would be able to talk with you about how your feeling and how to move forward. If you have insurance and go see a medical doctor many times they can refer you to a hospital or clinic that can perform this type testing. However it all depends on your insurance. I would give your medical doctor a call and make an appointment and while there tell him your concerns and need for a proper testing. If you ever need to talk with someone besides your therapist we are here.

Warm Regards,
Sonya

Go to the emergency room and explain what is happening and ask for help.
